From the Foreword of "Stuff I Wrote While Driving"

"I find time and our perspective of it, a fascinating thing to observe. Time is something that we spend so cheaply for most of our life and then would give all that we possess to purchase a little more as it runs out.

The moments of our lives are so profound. If we could only tap into the value of each day that God has given us and into the moments that comprise it. What a wondrous spectacle is a moment lived in the conscious realization of its own sacredness!

This work is a collection of poems from my journal. When I am inspired, I put that which inspires me on paper. I write while driving, at church, at work, in restaurants, at home and wherever inspiration grips me. I enjoy the task of making verbal "snapshots" of my life and what is going on around me.

I liken poetry to photography. A skilled photographer records moments of real life visually, in all of their contrasts and splendor. A poet's function is the same, but to record life with words. A poem should not be so much, a fabrication of the mind, but a recording of real life.

I must give glory to God, for it is He who has given to us this beautiful gift of life. It is our duty to live the days of our pilgrimage in a way that honors Him and reflects our appreciation to Him.

It is my prayer that any who read this volume, would be blessed by its contents. Please reflect on your life and how valuable it is. Meditate on the joys and sorrows that have formed your memories and who you are. Live the glory of each day. Your life is precious. Breathe in its essence and take it not for granted. Value the people in your life. Love with passion. Show mercy. Laugh often. Weep when the occasion calls for it. Be real. Live your life as a continual prayer to He who gave it."
